If surfing is your sport, you can’t leave Costa Rica without a visit to Witch’s rock and Ollie’s point. The only way the breaks are accessible is by boat which leaves from nearby Play del Coco, this keeps the number of people at any given time to a minimum and ensures plenty of waves for everyone. The waves aren’t huge just extremely good and extremely consistent which makes Witch’s and Ollie’s a great trip for surfers of all levels.
Witch’s Rock is all sand bottom right by a large river mouth which creates long hollow left and rights. When the wind cooperates and stays offshore (which is almost always) you enjoy almost perfect surfing conditions.
Ollie’s Point, which is named after Oliver North, is 10km north of Witch’s Rock. This is a point break, a little rocky but a super mellow wave that with a little swell can be the highlight of your trip. Both spots were shown in the movie Endless Summer II so check it out before your trip and see what we mean!
