Hotel Bula Bula is located right next to the Tamarindo Estuary which spans more than 1200 acres. This unique brackish water jungle is fed by the ebb and flow of the Pacific Ocean and is the heart of the Tamarindo Wildlife Sanctuary. The estuary is protected by the national park system here in Costa Rica and is home to hundreds of species of mammals and birds.
Within the confines of the sanctuary you may see the American crocodile or a giant leatherback turtle, two of Costa Rica’s largest mammals. Other inhabitants you may see include howler monkeys, anteaters and a relative of the raccoon called coatimundi. If you’re a bird lover, this tour is a must! On the estuary you will enjoy the sights and sounds of spectacled owls, a version of the quetzal referred to as a black headed trogan, hawks, ospreys and numerous others. All of these animals are protected in the Tamarindo Estuary and live among spectacular mangrove trees.
You don’t want to miss the opportunity to spend the morning on a guided boat tour of this beautiful jungle. We recommend taking the tour as early as possible to experience the sights and sounds of nature coming to life. The tour takes about two hours and leaves directly from Hotel Bula Bula. If you’re feeling really adventurous you can also rent a canoe or a kayak and explore the vast waters on your own.
